Bamboo is a unique and beautiful plant which is often misunderstood. Many people are unaware of the difference between running bamboo and clumping bamboo.
Running bamboo is an invasive plant which can spread underground, with new culms (stems) surfacing up to 6 metres from the original plant each growing season. NSW Bamboo does not produce or sell any forms of running bamboo.
Clumping bamboo is non-invasive. New culms (stems) grow directly next to the original plant.
